Have We Been Training for This?

There are so many survival skills from taking part in the “Burning Man Immersion Learning Program” (a.k.a going to Black Rock City), which are coming in handy right now. But there is also a deeper, more important Burning Man training that we need to lean into. Like the ability to look at a situation and say, “What is needed?” What would make this better?” “What do I have to Gift?”

The default world dust storm is here. What kind of Burners will we be?

First get clear on who your playa self really is. Then get to work on being that person in the new, emerging world. The world is blown apart. We have an opportunity to choose how we put it back together.

In this video I talk about how much of the current landscape can be influenced by Burning Man, including a clip of Burning Man co-founder Danger Ranger chiming in on the topic. [VIEW TRANSCRIPT]

p.s. I am so energized seeing the online ZOOM gatherings forming around theme camps and the 10 Principles. The playa spirit cannot be contained and must be expressed digitally in the immediate future. Personally, I’m hosting twice-a-day digital gatherings. It’s a lounge filled with virtual pink fur couches for us to share gratitude, creativity, and Radical Self-expression. (Every day at noon and 6pm PT)

My wife and I had the same thought when they announced the stay-at-home order. “We’re Burners! We’ve know how to do this!”.

Obviously, there are significant differences. We do have a limitless supply of food, water, and electricity, and pretty much flawless worldwide communication. In other respects, we don’t really have the help of our neighbors, as no one wants to risk getting anyone sick.

But the confidence that we can not just survive – but be happy! – on far less than we usually have access to – has gone a long way toward our mental well-being. No one in our home is hiding under the covers or sitting bored in a chair waiting for their “sentence” to be commuted by the governor. We’re taking advantage of the time together to do more, not less.

Thank you Halcyon for the encouraging words. It’s very comforting to hear positive vs. all the information our news puts out there. It was so nice meeting you at Youtopia. I also spent a few sunrises at Pink Hearts at Burning man. Our camp, Booty Hunters was around the corner from you. Peace , love and big ass hugs

Love this. Having spent time with Halycon years ago and talking with him, Burningman was a training camp for bringing more love and acceptance into this world! Much love

Halcyon, I have used Burner skills during Evacuation for Fire, and Flood in Northern California. Who knew I would add Pandemic to the list? What’s next? Frogs?
