Meet the Worlds Part 6: Share Your Creativity With the Burnerverse on Burn Week: Global Live Stream

Here we go again! August 22 to September 7, 2021, six teams of wildly creative technologists are building Virtual Worlds and inviting one and all to explore, co-create, and play in the digital dust. Welcome to the second in a series of conversations with the amazing humans who have dedicated their summer to building their World for the 2021 Virtual Burn. Learn about all the Worlds and get your tickets to the Virtual Burn here.

Introducing Burn Week: Global Live Stream!

Tell us about your World.

Jeff: Burn Week: Global Live Stream is a worldwide event featuring artists, creatives, and changemakers representing every continent, doing what we do in Black Rock City in a digital form. Bring your camp, your crew, your community and participate in a network of live stream experiences with chat features that allow participants to communicate with one another while they co-create and watch Burn Week events, creativity and shenanigans around the world.

Imagine us taking over the evil broadcasting company for the day. What would it look like to bring our vibe to the masses? This is an opportunity to participate with friends new and old and share your gifts; it is your space to form a unique collective online experience. Go to burnweek.live to learn how you can participate. Whether you want to bring a project, host a camp, create something new, or just add your presence alone as a gift, we welcome you Home.

Got something to share with your community — art cars, films, music, dance, comedy, spoken word, or anything else you can think of? We welcome anything that adheres to the 10 Principles and is aligned with Burning Man culture. The sky’s the limit. We can host live and recorded, visual and textual content. Please feel free to be absurd, be playful, or be serious — however you wish!

Do you or your group want to be amplified and take part in our collective endeavor? The best of the most thoughtful submissions will be featured on the Global Live Stream — a week-long ‘round-the-world broadcast of Burners sharing what they love to do.

Tell us more about what people can do in Burn Week: Global Live Stream. What kind of adventures can virtual Burners participate in?

The experience will be open for the entire two weeks — August 22 to September 6. While there, you can explore camps, post on walls, and find your crew. Things will pop up spontaneously, so be on the lookout. The global broadcast will begin the evening of August 27, 8pm PDT (August 28, 1pm Sydney time) to September 5. We still have a couple of spots to fill — reach out if you feel inspired!

Each day of the week, explore highlight reels, updates and antics from Regionals the world over, as well as artists and creatives from that part of the world. Blending genres, we showcase how this culture melts geographic boundaries. On August 28 we’ll begin in Australia with an evening/afternoon program featuring Burners from Australia, New Zealand, and vicinity. So that’ll be the first day. Next we meet with Asia, where we will touch base with Tokyo and Shanghai… We’ll travel around the globe until we wind up in North America on Friday night.

On Burn Night we are running a 24-hour broadcast — some of it new, some old. Expect a surreal spectacle of years past, present, and future with offerings great and small! All are welcome.

What are you bringing that’s new or different from last year? What can people look forward to that they didn’t experience last year?

Last year, we put this all together at the very last minute imaginable. It’s a testament to the community that we were able to pull it off. With literally no lead time we were able to represent almost the entire globe. This year our scope has expanded to a full week, doing a deeper dive about each part of the World. We’ve expanded our call to all artists of any sort who desire to participate. We are working with musicians, video artists, Regionals, filmmakers and others to create a container for the exploration of the culture of creators.

Again some of the content will be live, and some will be pre-recorded due to internet constraints and to make the experience accessible to as many Burners as possible. This year we have some “pop up stages” with theme camps and entities that are doing their own thing. For instance, we have an Artist Collective from Brazil putting a full day of programming on their page. Want to add your content? Reach out to burnnight@portl.com; we can embed from almost anywhere.

How do I get in? What software do I need? What hardware do I need?

Burn Week: Global Live Stream is cross-platform. If you can access the internet using a relatively current browser, you’re in. The best experience is going to be on a desktop computer; that will allow you to have a larger viewing screen and allows the chat and screen to play together nicely. It looks nice on mobile too, and it works on all sizes and all operating systems: Windows, Mac, Linux. Any platform is fine. The broadcast is going to be variable bit rate, so even if you have a low bandwidth connection, you should be able to experience the basics of the stream and exploration. We’re going to do our best to make everything optimized so anyone with any bandwidth can take part. Obviously it’s a challenge because it’s a global event — please have patience with us if we experience a glitch.

How do you bring your Burning Man thing, whatever it happens to be, into Burn Week: Global Live Stream?

Right now is the big push to bring in artists, theme camps, and other community projects. For this year the clock is ticking, and the schedule is quickly beginning to fill up! However, there are still a few spots. Email burnnight@portl.com, and we can discuss options.

The projects you bring are self sovereign. We provide the platform and make connections that empower members of the Burning Man community to amplify their projects and have a platform to connect with the global community.

Our current audience is mostly Burners — people who have been, or are creators already — though we are expanding to those who are new to Burning Man culture. We wish to grow to be a place welcoming to all types of wanderers, where they can explore what is going on in their community around the globe and throughout the year.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Thanks for playing with us and be sure to check out the other Worlds too! They are all super awesome, and have many gifts to share.
